What is a Campus Card?

Originally intended to be a simple ID, the Campus Card (i.e. the student card) now integrates nearly all services on campus to make life simple for students on the go. At present, the Campus Card is an ID, library card, gym pass, meal plan card, CUOL tape rental card, exam entrance card and debit card, all in one. This last feature is especially handy, as it allows students to carry money around on campus in a safe, convenient form.

Why should I add money to the card?

The Campus Card makes it easy for parents to provide funds specific to their student’s scholarly needs. To this end, the card can only be used to make purchases on campus, and alcohol is prohibited from being purchased. There’s also a daily spending limit at unattended vending locations.

No monthly fees, no interest charges, and the card can be used to get discounts at stores all across town!

The Campus Card is accepted as payment all over campus, including the Bookstore, all food locations, the Unicentre store, the Residence store and vending machines. The Campus Card is the only accepted method of payment at laundry machines, photocopiers and laser printers.

The Campus Card is also secure, as it has the student’s name, signature and color picture printed on it. Even if the card is lost or stolen, your money can still be protected: the card can either be deactivated online through Carleton Central 24/7, or by contacting the Campus Card Office at 613 520-3547 during regular operating hours.

There are many benefits to using the Campus Card debit account, perhaps the most important of which being its simplicity of use. The card allows students to pay for any purchase with a single swipe – no change to carry, no receipt to sign – and because their photo is on the card, vendors are able to verify the users authenticity before each transaction. Another important feature is convenience: the card is accepted at more than 450 locations on campus, making it the most comprehensive method of payment at Carleton.

How do I add funds to the Card?

The most convenient method to deposit funds is through our Online Deposit System. For those without Internet access, we also offer a fax deposit system and the option to mail in a deposit. For more information about how to use these systems, please visit our Depositing Funds page.

Account Types

There are a number of different account types that you may want to deposit funds into. The most common account type is the Convenience Dollars account; if your student is living in residence and has a residence meal plan, you may also want to consider putting funds into their Dining Dollars account. For a detailed description of each plan, please visit our Account Plans page

How to Get the Card

Students can apply for their card in advance of arriving at Carleton to save themselves time as there can be considerable lineups during the first few weeks of school. For information on how to apply for a card and where to pick it up, please visit our Get Your Card page.
