Once you have downloaded the Sophos Anti-Virus software, double-clicking the saved will file will automatically extract and install Sophos on your computer. These next few steps will ensure that your copy of Sophos is up-to-date and configured properly.

To configure Sophos, right-click on the blue Sophos shield in the Windows task tray at the bottom right of your screen. The following selections will be presented:

Update Now

Selecting Update Now will prompt Sophos Anti-Virus to immediately update your anti-virus signature files from the Sophos download site.

Configure Updating

Selecting Configure Updating will open the Sophos update options dialog box. These settings are preset by Carleton University and should be left at their installed default values.

View updating status

Selecting View updating status will open the update progress box. This selection is only available when Sophos is performing an update.

Open Sophos Anti-Virus

Selecting Open Sophos Anti-Virus will open the main Sophos program dialog.

Clicking Scan local disks will immediately start a scan of all local disk drives. Clicking Configure Sophos Anti-Virus will open the main configuration dialog.

Click on On-access scanning and select the Disinfection tab. Check off Disinfect items that contain a virus Select Delete from the Actions list Click OK

Select the Cleanup tab. Check off "Automatically Cleanup" items that contain a virus Select Delete from the Actions list Click OK
