Moves, Adds or Changes: The extension number remains in the room. If students choose to move, the student will receive a number change. All moves are coordinated at the Housing Office. CCS Voice Services does not accept move requests from students.
Residence VoIP Disclaimer
The following statement is intended for students inquiring about the possibility of installing Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) in Carleton residence rooms.
Based on an investigation by CCS personnel, Carleton University (CU) does not currently disallow the use of Voice over IP devices and/or services on the Campus Network. Therefore a normal network jack can be used by Carleton residence occupants for Voice over IP services.
However, students who choose to contract this service from a solution provider should take note of the following:
- The CU residence network does not currently provide any Quality of Service (QoS) to guarantee optimum Voice over IP performance. Thus, best effort service should be expected which may not be always adequate for good quality voice communication.
- No effort will be expended by CU staff to troubleshoot Voice over IP related service issues.
- CU reserves the right to shut down the service if it is determined that the service or its users are compromising the security of the CU network.
- Housing and Conference Services will not adjust the Residence fees for students who connect to Voice over IP services.
