Commuter Challenge Update

The Healthy Workplace Committee, in partnership with the Sustainability Office, recently invited Carleton employees to participate in the annual Commuter Challenge. This national initiative encouraged employees to find an alternate way to travel to and from work between May 31 and June 6. Options included walking, jogging, carpooling, cycling, in-line skating, and other environmentally friendly modes of transportation.

The results are now in and there is some great news for the environment!

The 40 Carleton employees who took part in the challenge helped save 582 kg of green house gas emissions. Plus, all of this activity helped participants burn a collective total of 34,033 calories. Wow! Congratulations to all who got involved in this worthwhile endeavour.

If you have ideas about other healthy workplace initiatives you would like to see in future, send them to healthyworkplace@carleton.ca. And please visit the Healthy Workplace website to find out about other health and wellness programs available to members of the Carleton community.
