Notably, the introduction of the Master Student Financial Aid Agreement (MSFAA). This document will replace the Loan/Grant Certificate you have previously picked up at the Awards Office, and allowes for your OSAP funding to be electronically deposited into your bank account. This added peice of documentation is to be submitted to a designated Canada Post Outlet. The Awards Office CANNOT accept or forward these documents on your behalf.

The MSFAA must include your banking information, and is to be taken to a desginated Canada Post Outlet with your S.I.N card and Canadian Government issued photo I.D or acceptable substitutes.

As in previous years, your Signature and Declaration Pages, along with any other requested supporting documentation, EXCEPT the MSFAA, are to be submitted to the Awards Office.

Learning Support Services Summer Workshops
Improve your study skills and maybe find some air conditioning, with Learning Support Services located on the fourth floor, MacOdrum Library. These 25-minute study-skills workshops focus on topics like:

• Academic Reading
• Note-taking in Lectures
• Memory & Concentration
• Critical Thinking
• Research Skills
• Writing Essays
• Time Management
• Test & Exam Preparation
• Writing Tests & Exams

Workshops are being offered on Tuesdays at 11am and 1p.m., Wednesdays at 1 and 3 p.m., and Thursdays at 1p.m.. To see the complete study-skills workshop schedule please visit the MySuccess link on Carleton Central.

1-on-1 study skills advising sessions
If you would like more advice and information on your study skills, you can book a one-on-one meeting with a study skills specialist. During your appointment you can focus on a specific study skill that is important to you and help you to improve your learning strategies. The sessions are designed to help you with common concerns such as:

• time management
• procrastination
• reading and note-taking
• academic integrity
• listening and note-taking
• memory and concentration
• exam preparation
• critical thinking

Sessions are approximately 50 minutes in length. Students must complete an in-take form so appointments must be booked in-person at the LSS Help Desk on the 4th Floor of the MacOdrum Library.

English Conversation groups
English conversation groups are also offered throughout the summer and are designed to help students engage in the English Language. Peer helpers create activities and lead discussions relevant for ESL students. They are also there to share their experiences and offer their support to students. ECGs for the summer are being offered Mondays at 1 p.m. and Wednesdays at 11 a.m.. To participate, just come to room 402 in the MacOdrum Library!

President:

• Oversees SAMH events, volunteers, funds
• Helps to organize, structure and coordinate executives to meet group initiatives and keep on task
• Main points of contact between Health and Counselling Services and Student Experience Office
• In charge of running bi-weekly meetings
• Managing large scale event items, contacting speakers, guests, etc

Treasurer:

• Manage SAMH budget and allot (coordinate) funds for various events
• Main point of contact for volunteers to receive money for event supplies
• Point of contact for student experience office to organize parking passes for guests, prize money, supplies, and guest gifts)
• Attended bi-weekly meetings to discuss and contribute to SAMH initiatives

As part of the fellowship, Nichols has been invited to join other award winners at the annual Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) conference in Montreal this summer. She will also have the opportunity to develop a collaborative project that can enhance teaching and learning at the post-secondary level.

“Winning this award is really exciting,” said Nichols. “I believe that if you work hard and be kind to people, good things will happen. I really couldn’t have asked for anything better.”

Nichols, who is considering a master’s degree in student affairs, has been involved in numerous volunteer activities. She has taken part in community service while on Alternative Spring Break in Guatemala, held a leadership role with students as a teaching assistant and competed in business competitions, to name just a few of her extracurricular credits.
