Home / Mentoring Programs / First Generation Students

First Generation Students are students whose parents have not attended and/or graduated from post-secondary education (college or university). Even if you have had a sibling attend a post-secondary institution before you, you are still considered First Generation Student if your parents meet the requirement described above.

First Generation Students and their familiesĀ  have unique needs and experiences. As such, the Student Experience Office in partnership with the Science Student Success Centre and Student Academic Success CentreĀ  have developed programs specifically for First Generation Students. These Programs aim to ease student transition, provide and connect First Generation Students with a network of student service and academic support staff, create a community of peers coming from similar backgrounds, as well as provide paid opportunities to upper year students.

To read more about the programs and opportunities offered to First Generation and upper year students click the tabs on the left.

This Initiative was made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
