What is the First-in-Family Program?

Are you a first generation student? Is this your first year at university? If you answered yes to these questions, the First-in-Family Peer Mentor program is designed just for you.

Being the first in your family to attend university can sometimes be an overwhelming and confusing experience, for both students and parents. The First-in-Family Peer Mentor Program is intended to address the unique needs of first in family students and ensure that you have a great first year experience.

We want to help you get involved and engaged in the campus community as well as guide and encourage you throughout your first academic year. It is designed around all three components of the Student Experience Office’s mandate – transition support, engaging programming opportunities and peer to peer learning.

Once you register as a new first-in-family student, you will be matched with a trained upper year first-in-family student mentor. Not only will you meet with your peer mentor one-on-one, you will also have the opportunity to participate in fun outings, social activities as well as informative and helpful workshops. Students in this program often go on to become mentors in their upper years. Register to be placed with a mentor in this program by completing the form below.

If you are a current mentor, CLICK HERE to fill out meeting reports.
