TA Mentor

Who is Jordan Fairbairn?

Jordan is a PhD Student in Sociology. This is her first year as a TA Mentor.

Hello Sociology & Anthropology Teaching Assistants!

I am very excited to be the 2011 – 2012 TA Mentor. The program is designed to provide you with the support and skills you need to succeed as a teaching assistant at Carleton. As a TA mentor, I am a general resource for TAing at Carleton and I would like to encourage everyone, especially first-time TAs, to talk with me one-on-one for any questions, advice, or concerns you may have. Throughout the year, I will also be working to set up course-specific mentoring between new and experienced TAs, facilitating peer observations, and providing workshops.

Workshops will be offered on topics such as:

  • marking assignments and exams,
  • facilitating discussion groups,
  • career development, and
  • how to prepare a guest lecture.

The Mentor program also brings teaching assistants together through socials and other events. I hope to you see you there!
